The abstract painting made me think of a path next to a garden pond filled with lilies. It really turned out quite beautiful!

Letting go of perfection is really hard for me when I try to do art. Would it be better for me to draw imperfectly, or never draw at all but it’s perfect in my head? Ugh, too much overthinking, which seems to be exactly what these exercises are attempting to correct.

My sister-in-law saw a path and a lake in one of them. I'm actually having a really hard time seeing anything but vaguely pleasant shapes.

Yup, that's exactly what the exercises are for. One of the other things the lady talked about was being ok with using art supplies--she's like, "If you're going to paint, you're going to use paint. You just have to be ok with it." And she reiterates that you'll paint a lot of things that aren't any good in order to find out what you like, it's just part of the process.

One of my biggest turning points after college was buying a sketch book and explicitly telling myself it was ok to leave drawings unfinished and pages mostly empty and to draw things that didn't come out right. Best (art) decision ever.

I'm so impressed you did the left horse with just your fingers. Although, you have to have incredible control to be able to paint with a brush so I shouldn't be that surprised, I guess. :)

The addition of the tape is interesting. Brings a sense of order to the overall effect.

I was honestly surprised by the finger horse as well. I didn't think I could make something remotely refined with just my fingers.

The tape was so fun to peel off I will probably do this again JUST FOR THAT FEELING. Like picking a scab only without blood or pain or scarring :-P
